One of the traditions that I started doing with my kids each year is the Advent Calendar. They love opening it up each day to find their treat and now they ask for one every year. Since we’ve been in lockdown, my creativity has been spiking and I’ve been doing a lot of crafting with my kids!
This year, I decided that instead of buying an Advent Calendar that we would make one instead and it turned out so cute! I wanted to make the tree from scratch but I found a cute, small one at Micheals for half off with the storage containers already inside.
You can make this simple but cute DIY Advent Calendar for less than $20 and the memory will last forever. All you need is paint and glitter and we can get to work!
All of the doors in our tree came out so that way we could paint them individually. While my daughter painted some of the doors, I painted the outside of the house red and the front white so that our colors would pop.
As you can see, we didn’t paint them the traditional colors. We painted in plenty of different styles and made faces, polka dots, rainbows. Whatever we wanted! After we painted all the doors, I added a splash of glitter so that way it would shine when the light hits it and done!
This project took us about fifteen minutes but we had so much fun making it. And it’s something that we can keep forever!
Are you going make advent calendars with your kids?
